Hello,

I have a simple question regarding Smart Document XML Expansion pack.

If a Smart Document is opened on a machine that does NOT contain any Smart
Document's solution dlls or the related XML Expansion pack (for example if a
Smart Document is emailed to a third-party that just want to view the
document), the following dialog is generated by MS Word 2003 asking the user
if they want to download the XML Expansion pack for this document.

Is there a way to disable this dialog from appearing in the first place?
Are Smart Documents designed to be opened on ignorant Machines?

Best regards,

Wamiq

Hi Wamiq

Smart documents are designed to be portable and as such machines not
installed would normally prompt as discussed an option to try and download
the manifest solution to the local machine. You can set via group policies
and or a registry setting that will allow you to disable this from being
used on a workstation but this requires you to have access to the remote
machine :(, Another option is to strip for the current VSTO 1 solutions if
you are using this development methodology is to remove Custom Properties
from the document before sending to the remote machine or if you are looking
more to the future the new version of VSTO 2 has within .NET Framework V2 a
ServerDocument class that allows you to do work on a document without
Word/Excel on the machine including in the June CTP and onwards a simple
RemoveCustomization() method that will remove the solution as well.

Hope this helps
